Conducting Rudrabhishek on Shivaratri, during graha pravesh, anniversary or birthdays is also considered good. One may also perform the abhishek during auspicious muhurat after consulting a priest

How is Rudrabhishek done/Maha Rudrabhishekam (observances and rules):

In this puja, Lord Shiva is offered a holy bath made of flowers and other sacred puja supplies. The Rudra Abhishek puja must be performed by devotees with complete devotion to Lord Shiva in a precise manner. Flowers, incense sticks, ghee, curd, honey, fresh milk, panchamrit, rose water, sweets, Ganga Jal, camphor, aracanut, cardamom, and cloves, as well as Bel patra and holy ash, are among the ingredients used in puja. The most prevalent type is Jal Abhishek, which is followed by Dudh (milk), Shahad (honey), Panchamrit, Ghee, and Dahi (curd) Abhishek. The devotee must sit for the puja facing east. They must cleanse their body thoroughly and wear clean clothes. They must be free of any negative thoughts. Avoid consuming alcohol and meat the day before and on the puja day. Avoid external distractions.
