Auspicious Time for the Naming Ceremony of the Baby
Namakarana
Namakarana (Naming Ceremony) is performed to give the name to a new born baby. As per tradition, the naming ceremony is performed by the father, whispering the name in child's ear three times. This is repeated by other elders in the family. It is customary to place a gold coin in the palm of the child during the naming ceremony. Usually Namakarana is performed on 10th, 11th, 12th or 16th day after the birth of the baby, in which case no specific Muhurtha (auspicious time) is required. Otherwise an auspicious time is fixed as per astrological guidelines.
